Safe, real-time diagnostics using advanced ultrasound technology.
Ultrasound imaging, or sonography, is a safe, noninvasive, and radiation-free diagnostic tool used to visualize the internal structures of the body. At Tower Imaging Medical Group, we offer a wide range of advanced ultrasound services across our 9 locations in Southern California, performed by experienced technologists and interpreted by board-certified radiologists.
What Is Ultrasound Imaging?
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of internal organs, tissues, and blood flow. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, ultrasound does not involve ionizing radiation, making it especially useful for pregnancy and frequent monitoring. As sound waves bounce off internal structures, they are converted into images that display motion, allowing physicians to assess blood flow, heart valve function, and organ activity in real time.
Comprehensive Ultrasound Services
We perform a wide variety of ultrasound exams, including but not limited to:
- Abdominal Ultrasound: Evaluation of the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and appendix
- Pelvic Ultrasound: Uterus and ovaries (including endovaginal ultrasound for detailed pelvic imaging)
- Obstetric Ultrasound: Pregnancy monitoring and fetal development assessment
- Breast Ultrasound: Evaluation of breast nodules and abnormalities
- Thyroid Ultrasound: Detailed imaging of thyroid nodules or enlargement
- Scrotal Ultrasound: Examination of testicular conditions and pain
- Vascular Ultrasound (Duplex Doppler): Carotid arteries, leg veins, aorta, and more
- Pediatric Ultrasound: Child-specific diagnostic imaging in a safe and noninvasive format
Ultrasound-Guided Procedures
Ultrasound is also an essential tool for guiding biopsies and minimally invasive procedures. At Tower Imaging Medical Group, we routinely perform:
- Liver biopsies
- Thyroid biopsies
- Prostate biopsies
- Breast biopsies
- Lymph node biopsies
Ultrasound guidance allows for greater precision, minimizing discomfort and improving diagnostic accuracy.
What to Expect During Your Ultrasound
Ultrasound exams are typically quick and comfortable. You will lie on a padded exam table while a technologist uses a handheld device called a transducer. A warm gel is applied to the skin to help transmit sound waves and improve image quality. The transducer is moved gently across the targeted area to capture images in real time.
For some exams, such as pelvic ultrasounds, a specialized internal probe may be used to provide clearer views of internal organs. This approach enhances diagnostic accuracy while remaining safe and well-tolerated by patients.
After Your Ultrasound Exam
There is no downtime after an ultrasound. Once the exam is complete, one of our radiologists will analyze the images and prepare a report for your referring physician. Your doctor will follow up with you to discuss the results and any recommended next steps in your care.
