Breast MRI with CADStream Technology
Breast MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is a highly sensitive diagnostic tool used to detect breast cancer and evaluate the extent of disease. At Tower Imaging Medical Group, we offer advanced Breast MRI services enhanced by CADStream computer-aided detection technology—interpreted exclusively by fellowship-trained radiologists specializing in breast imaging. With 9 locations across Southern California, our goal is to deliver the most accurate results with comfort, speed, and care.
What Is a Breast MRI?
Breast MRI is a noninvasive imaging study that uses powerful magnets, radio waves, and computer technology to produce detailed images of the breast tissue. It is especially valuable in detecting abnormalities in women with dense breast tissue, monitoring treatment response, and assessing the extent of known cancer. Unlike mammography, Breast MRI does not use radiation, making it a safe and effective diagnostic alternative or supplement.
What to Expect During Your Breast MRI
Before the procedure, you may receive an intravenous (IV) contrast agent to enhance tissue visualization. This contrast helps highlight abnormal areas, allowing for more accurate detection of tumors or other irregularities.
During the exam, you’ll lie face-down on a cushioned table with both breasts positioned in a special padded recess known as a “breast coil.” The table then gently slides into the MRI scanner. You will be asked to remain still while the machine captures high-resolution images in sequences lasting 5 to 15 minutes each. The total procedure typically lasts around 45 minutes.
IV contrast agents are considered very safe; however, let your technologist know if you’ve had allergic reactions to MRI contrast in the past or have sensitivities to medications.
What Is CADStream?
CADStream is an advanced computer-aided detection (CAD) technology that improves the accuracy, standardization, and efficiency of Breast MRI interpretation. It automates image processing, corrects for minor patient movement, and enhances visualization of suspicious findings. The result is clearer, more consistent images that allow radiologists to interpret studies faster and with greater confidence.
CADStream plays a vital role in evaluating newly diagnosed breast cancer, detecting residual disease after surgery, identifying tumor recurrence, and measuring response to chemotherapy. When combined with mammography, Breast MRI with CADStream offers unparalleled sensitivity for early breast cancer detection—especially in women with dense breasts or elevated cancer risk.
Benefits of Breast MRI with CADStream
- Detects small abnormalities often missed by mammography
- Provides simultaneous imaging of both breasts in a single session
- Ideal for women with breast implants, including rupture assessment
- Helps localize tumors in patients with cancer spread to lymph nodes
- Useful as a screening tool for women at high risk of breast cancer
- Accurately assesses tumor size, spread, and treatment response
Who Should Consider Breast MRI?
Breast MRI is often recommended for:
- Women recently diagnosed with breast cancer
- Women with dense breast tissue or inconclusive mammograms
- Women with a strong family history or known genetic risk (e.g., BRCA mutation)
- Patients undergoing chemotherapy to evaluate treatment effectiveness
- Post-lumpectomy patients to detect residual or recurrent cancer
After Your Breast MRI
Once your Breast MRI is complete, one of our breast imaging radiologists will review and interpret your exam. A detailed report will be sent to your referring physician, who will follow up with you to discuss the results and any next steps in your care plan.
